Day 51 – Thursday 20 August 2020 – Rotary & Lions Clubs

Our focus today is on the local Rotary and Lions Clubs. Both are well known for their community and charitable work.

The local Rotary Club has remained active online during recent months but many of their normal activities have been put on hold. Let’s pray for the club president, Peter Wellington, and the Council which meets each month to plan and lead things. and for next week’s club meeting on Zoom on Tuesday evening.

The Ryde Lions Club is a community service charity led by president Barrie Jehan, and is part of Lions Club International. They normally engage in a number of fundraising activities which enables them to offer grants to other local community groups. Many of these initiatives have sadly not gone ahead. They also normally help marshall the Flat Walk as part of Mountbatten’s Walk the Wight and have helped in organising PSA testing events for the early detection of prostate cancer. Like Rotary, they have had to move their club meetings online but have managed to hold regular beach cleans each month – the last one a couple of Thursdays back.

Please join me now as we pray for these two precious community groups.

Loving God, “Creator of the heavens, who stretches them out, who spreads out the earth with all that springs from it, who gives breath to its people, and life to those who walk on it.” (Isaiah 42:5)…

…we thank you for the many community minded people in the Ryde area who give of their time and energy to serve the needs of our town and villages. We are especially grateful today for the fine work of the Ryde Rotary Club and Ryde Lions Club. We give thanks for the members of these groups who come together and volunteer unselfishly in charitable work and in seeking to make Ryde a better place. Thank you for planting in them such seeds of life and hope.

As they have had to adapt, like all of us, to the challenges of the last five months, we pray for encouragement and for resilience as they seek to continue all the good work in our neighbourhoods. We pray for those who lead these groups and have had to learn to work flexibly and creatively over this recent period and we pray that the fundraising would still prove fruitful so that they can support the many groups that are struggling during the Pandemic. Give them great wisdom in the allocation of resources.

May your great love for the people of the Ryde area be poured out in all kinds of ways through our Rotary and Lions Clubs to bring blessing and hope in this most difficult year.

We bring these prayers in the precious name of Jesus. Amen

Please join us this evening at 7pm for our daily Zoom prayer meeting:
