Day 61 – Sunday 30 August 2020 – Children in Care

Welcome again to Pray For Ryde. Today is the 61st day of the initiative where for 3 months we will be concentrating our thoughts and prayers for Ryde and the surrounding area.

My name is Reverend David Plumb minister of 5 Methodist Churches – Ryde, Binstead, Wootton, East Cowes and Cowes.

Today 30th August we will be praying for Children in Care

Matthew 19v14-15 Reads

‘Jesus said, Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these. When he had placed his hands on them, he went on from there.’

Wow, what a subject we have today. The core principals of the United Nations Convention On The Rights Of The Child are;

Devotion to the best interests of the child

The right to life, survival and development

Respect for the views of the child.

We believe that every child should have a roof over their head, food, medicines and health care etc. but the greatest thing children are craving for is to be loved.

Unfortunately, too many children do not experience true love within their family. They do not experience being special, wanted and appreciated.

For various reasons including family breakdowns and abuse many children end up in care. These places can be for some a place where they can thrive but for some the physical and mental abuse may continue.

Let us now pray for those in care and the care homes in which they find themselves.

Lord God we know how special children are to you. Today we bring to you those children who are in care. Lord we do not know all the reasons why children end up in care but we do pray that they can thrive in a positive way to their surrounding and especially find the Love, Care and Support they are yearning for.

We pray for those who have come through the care system and find themselves often abandoned. Occasionally they end up being brought before our Justice system. Again many of them still yearning for Love, Care and Support.

We also pray for those who welcome these children in their homes where they may find safety, security and again Love Care and Support.

Finally we pray for the carers. We pray they show the Love, Care and Support that these children urgently need.

We bring these prayers in Jesus Name.

1 Cor. 13v13 reads ‘ And now these three remain: Faith, hope and Love. But the greatest of these is Love’
