Whenever I am out and about across the island I always feel so blessed that I live in such a beautiful place.
The Island motto is if, ‘All this Beauty is of God’ and as people of faith we wholeheartedly share that belief.
It is not surprising that others want to share in the beauty of this place, take time out from their busy lives and relax amidst the slower pace of life here.
The Bible tells us that Sabbath is important, that we should set aside time in our lives to rest and focus on God. So what a privilege to be able to share our beautiful island with holiday makers so that they can relax, rest and be aware of the beauty of the world that God has created for us, making special memories which will stay with them for the rest of their lives and perhaps finding this a place where they feel particularly close to God.
Sometimes we are tempted to be frustrated by the increase in traffic, the inflated ferry prices or the sheer numbers of people who gather in the most popular spots on the island. But the Bible also tells us that we should welcome strangers and love our neighbours.
But they are just as much a part of the cycle of the seasons on the island as the daffodils of spring and the autumn leaves.
This year we have been acutely aware that holiday makers also provide the jobs and hence the income for very many people who live here and we should give thanks for that.
So let’s pray now for the holiday makers to the island.
We pray for all those who visit this island for rest and relaxation.
May we always be ready to welcome them
and to help them make the most of the time they spend here.
May they find joy in spending quality time with their loved ones
may they find the beauty and peace which they seek
and in that beauty and peace may they find you.
In Jesus’ name we pray.
