Welcome again to Pray For Ryde. Today is the 82nd day of the initiative where for 3 months we will be concentrating our thoughts and prayers for Ryde and the surrounding area.
My name is Reverend David Plumb minister of 5 Methodist Churches – Ryde, Binstead, Wootton, East Cowes and Cowes.
The Theme today Sunday 20th September is The I.O.W. Festival
As with many people tuning in today I remember the early days of the Isle Of Wight Pop Festivals with artists such as Bob Dylan. I can recall the original pop festivals in both Wootton and Freshwater. In those days anyone could wander around the site and take in the atmosphere.
Unfortunately the Isle of Wight Festival did not take place this year because of the Covid 19 lockdown. From where I live in Wootton I can hear the loud music booming across the fields to our home. Although for 4 days the music is loud, the road layout may be changed and we may encounter disruptions it is good to see people enjoying themselves. Sadly there will be people there dealing in drugs etc but the majority are there to have fun. It is also good to know that in amongst the crowds there are often Christians, some as organisations and some as individuals working away in the background.
But music is not exclusive to modern generations. It has been recorded in the scriptures way back in time.
Psalm 150v1-6 says
1 Praise the Lord.[a]
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
2 Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
3 Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
4 praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
5 praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
Let us pray
Lord we do pray for those who were so much looking forward to this year’s Festival which was unfortunately cancelled. For the businesses that had planned to be there and for the organisers. We give thanks for the Christians there in an official and unofficial capacity. For the way they can share God’s love in caring, comforting and sharing the Gospel of Christ.
Lord we do pray for the safety of those who attend. We pray that they will not be tempted into the darker side of the Festival including drugs. We pray that the Light of the World will force out the darkness.
We bring our prayers in Jesus name.
